What lifestyle changes can you make to relieve anxiety?

Changing your lifestyle is a powerful, yet simple tool for fighting anxiety as well as depression. There are cases where lifestyle cases are the only thing you need to dispel anxiety and depression. However, if you are suffering from moderate to severe symptoms and if lifestyle changes don’t seem to help after a few months, seek professional help.

Here are the essential lifestyle changes that can reduce or even completely eliminate anxiety symptoms.

Get 8 Hours of Sleep

Not having regular sleeping patterns or sleeping too little can trigger anxiety. Having 7 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night can significantly reduce your anxiety symptoms. Two hours before bedtime turn off all your electronic devices, have a hot cup of tea, and put yourself to sleep with a book so that your mind clears of negative thoughts.

Leave Work at Work

One of the biggest stress factors in these modern times is work. You need to set boundaries for yourself, and when your work day finishes, make sure you don’t take your work home with you. This might be close to impossible, especially if you are a business owner, but keep in mind that this is extremely beneficial. Allow yourself to have a life outside work.

Check Your Diet

If you are a smoker or enjoy a few glasses of wine every night, or if you are a late night snack eater, your body is in a constant toxic state, which is fuel for anxiety. Slowly start eliminating everything that is bad for your body. Start cutting back on cigarettes, caffeine, refined/artificial sugar, alcohol, pork, red meat, processed foods, and replace them with vegetables, fruits, legumes, seeds, and nuts.

Limit Your Social Media Intake

Believe it or not, social media is an enormous black hole for your energy. You are constantly exposed to other people’s opinions, politics, personal issues, all the things you really don’t need or want to know.  If you are a person who has anxiety symptoms, your mind is already filled with too many irrational thoughts, and sponging up other people’s bad energy is the last thing you need. You don’t have to completely stop using social media, just filter out what you don’t need to see.
