Is Vaping the Answer to Dangerous Smoking?

Presently, vaping is enjoying a lot of popularity and every day sees the increase of professionals proclaiming that is a better option to smoking cigarettes. It also has its fair share of critics, citing harmful chemicals in the vaping liquid. However, the jury is still out on whether it is the better option to smoking.

To Vape or Not to Vape

Vaping is the term used to define the act of inhaling and exhaling the vapor from an electronic cigarette. E-cigarettes look like traditional cigarettes, but they have distinct differences. E-cigarettes have liquid nicotine that is vaporized using a heating element. There is a switch that turns the element on and off to heat the nicotine.

There is compelling evidence that suggests that e-cigarettes are safer than regular cigarettes. In a study conducted by the Public Health of England, vaping is 95% less harmful than conventional smoking. This is because they lack the harmful chemicals found in tobacco, such as tar and carbon monoxide. With more countries enforcing smoking bans, more people are going for e-cigarettes to help them quit smoking.

Is Vaping the Answer?

When used responsibly with the intention of quitting smoking altogether, many scientists and doctors agree that vaping has long-term benefits. Compared to nicotine patches, vaping is a much better option of enjoying your cigarette during your break.

Despite the evidence showing that vaping is not as harmful as cigarettes, it also has proven risks. In addition to nicotine addiction, the liquid nicotine in the e-cigarette contains formaldehyde, a toxic carcinogen, as well as diacetyl, a flavoring agent that predisposes you to lung disease.

More studies need to be done on the effects of vaping, but thus far, it is a much safer option than conventional smoking. According to the health charity Ash, there is a decrease in the number of people smoking cigarettes thanks to vaping.
